Milton Keynes College Student of the Year 2008
I began studying at MK college in September 2006, when I embarked
on a BTEC National Diploma in Media. In May 2008 my personal tutor
gave me the news that he had nominated me as Student of the Year
for the Art, Design and Media and that I had been selected from
all the students nominationed for our department. On 5th June I
attended the awards ceremony with my parents, to receive my prize,
along with 21 other students who were being recognised for their
work and commitment to their courses. The awards ceremony was a
special event and I felt honoured to be part of it, especially when
I was called to the stage to receive my award for the Art, Design
and Media Student of the Year, which was presented by Lincoln Bedeau
of ask MK Television. It was
a proud moment for my parents and tutors and of course, for me.
At the end of the ceremony, a final special award was announced,
the 'Milton Keynes Student of the Year 2008', chosen from 20 000
students. I was completely shell shocked, as my name was read out
and I took once more to the stage to receive the trophy from Al
Murray. As I stood before the 250+ people who gave me a standing
ovation, holding my engraved trophy aloft, full of emotion and pride,
I finally felt I I had proven myself, as a capable, intelligent
individual, who can and does work hard and to the best of their
ability all of the time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my tutors in
the media department at the Bletchley Campus for believing in me
from the very start and for all the support and encourgament they
have given me, throughout my time at Milton
Keynes College. I am proud to have studied in your department
and will never forget the two fantastic years I have had as an MK
college student.
